Ingrown Toenails

An ingrown toenail is a common, often unpleasant condition frequently seen in the big toenail.
Athletes commonly suffer from ingrown toenails.
Improper shoe gear and toe injuries are frequently associated with ingrown toenails.
It is not unusual for an ingrown toenail to recur unless treated appropriately.
Conservative treatments include soaks, elevation, proper nail cutting, and good foot hygiene.
A podiatrist professional can perform a minor toenail procedure if the problem is severe or recurrent.

Cracked Heels

Cracked Heels are often a result of dry, damaged skin. The most common causes of dry, cracked heels include the following: medical conditions such as obesity, diabetes, eczema, hypothyroidism, Sjögren’s syndrome, juvenile plantar dermatosis, infections such as athlete’s foot, biomechanical factors such as flat feet, heel spurs, or standing for long periods of time. Don’t ignore dry, cracked heels, as over time, you may develop deeper fissures, which increases your risk of infection. If you are suffering from dry, cracked heels, make an appointment with Podiatrist.

Corn and callus removal

Corns and calluses are hard, painful areas of skin that often develop on the feet in response to pressure or friction. They happen when the skin tries to protect an underlying area from injury, pressure or rubbing. Neither is dangerous, but they can cause irritation. They are more common among people who wear ill-fitting shoes, have sweaty feet and stand for long periods each day. Corns have a distinct, often hard, centre, which may be surrounded by inflamed skin. Corns can be painful when pressed, but calluses are not usually painful. Calluses are usually larger than corns, and they vary in shape, while corns tend to be smaller, round and well-defined. Calluses normally develop on the soles of the feet, especially under the heels or balls, on the palms of the hands, and also on the knees. Corns often occur in non-weight-bearing parts of the skin.

Fungal infection laser treatment

The technology behind laser treatments that correct other conditions within the body, such as cataracts and gum disease, can also be used to remove toenail fungus (onychomycosis). During this painless treatment, a laser is aimed precisely at the microorganisms under the nail to eliminate them with no damage to healthy tissue in the area. Laser treatment for fungal nails is accurate and painless and can take as little time per toe—as opposed to the weeks or months needed for topical or oral treatments to work. What’s more, those other treatments aren’t always as successful as lasers are in removing or preventing the fungi from returning.

Nail medical reconstruction

The modern method of reconstructing of toenail plate is a valuable addition to the work of a podiatrist. It is very desirable to offer professional services in this range. Reconstruction of the toenail plate is not only an improvement in the aesthetic appearance but also a protective function, preventing deformations within the placenta and periungual shafts. The treatment allows you to quickly obtain a toenail that is extremely aesthetic and durable. However, it is not the simplest procedure, and obtaining the right shape of the toenail requires great care in its implementation.

Hyperkeratosis

Hyperkeratosis is an abnormal thickening of the outer skin layer. This condition, along with cracked heels, is associated with dry skin in that area. The most common causes of dryness are disorders of the arterial and venous systems, which often lead to impairment of the nerve endings as well as sweat and sebaceous glands. This causes a disturbance in the physiology of the different layers of the skin, which are not receiving enough lipids and fluids. The dryness might affect the whole foot or be more localised. The dry skin might give a yellow or grey appearance, and the texture might be consistent in hyperkeratosis or brittle and flaky in the case of cracked heels.
